A grassfire was sparked by a welder’s flame being used to build a fence. The welding crew was not required to have any water or fire protection at the site.

Sprinklers aid in containing university fire in Canada
Activities at the First Nations University of Canada were not affected by a small boiler-room fire. The sprinklers helped to contain the fire, according to the fire crew.

UPDATE: Manhattan hi-rise fire injures 45
The hi-rise fire on the Lower East Side has sent 45 people to hospitals, 30 of them firefighters. Two civilians have life-threatening injuries.

Oil rig accident kills one
The victim was injured when he became trapped between a vehicle and a piece of equipment, apparently received a blunt trauma injury to the chest.

Firecracker blast kills 25 in China's desert
904 boxes of firecrackers that filled eight trucks had been taken out to the Gobi Desert in the northwest region of Xinjiang, China, to be destroyed but they exploded.
