HSE inspects building sites in Thames Valley

March 2, 2010

In light of the figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that show 533 workers were hurt across Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire in 2008/2009, inspectors are visiting building sites throughout the Thames Valley. Their goal is to reduce the number of people being injured or killed. This is the third year in which inspectors spot check sites with a focus this year on refurbishment and roofing work.

HSE could close sites and prosecute those responsible for putting workers at risk at such sites. Last year inspectors visited 1,759 sites and 2,145 contractors. They issued more than 270 prohibition notices to stop dangerous work - much of it relating to working from height.
